Takeda Community Commitment (Lincolnshire)
Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America, Inc. (TPNA) is committed to being a good corporate citizen in the communities where its employees and patients live and work. TPNA's philanthropic mission is to help improve the lives of the people in the communities it serves.
Beyond the company's financial support of certain organizations, employees at all levels of the company also contribute time to non-profit organizations each year, serving on boards, working as mentors and rolling up their sleeves to take part in community service activities.
To date in 2004, TPNA has made monetary and in-kind contributions to nearly 200 U.S.-based charities and social service agencies, largely in the health and human services sector. For 2003, the company supported more than 250 organizations. More than half of the company's community investments support the following:
American Diabetes Association (ADA) - The nation's leading non-profit health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy. TPNA is recognized as a "Banting Circle" donor due to its high level of contributions; its support includes the following programs:
- America's Walk for Diabetes
- ADA/TPNA Mentor-Based Minority Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
- School Walk for Diabetes
Rebuilding Together - On August 11, 2004, more than 220 Takeda employees participated in the second annual Takeda Community Outreach Day by painting, landscaping and refurbishing the Andrew Cooke Magnet School. In partnership with Rebuilding Together - a non-profit organization that specializes in rehabbing buildings and homes in lower-income areas - the employees cleaned and revitalized the school grounds for the 550 students that attend. In addition to the hands-on work, Takeda provided a financial contribution to purchase supplies and materials for the day's renovations. The event brought out the best in employees by inspiring leadership, teamwork and passion for the work they were doing to support one of their local communities in need.
This event was a follow-up to the inaugural Takeda Community Outreach Day during which more than 125 employees worked to improve the appearance of North Chicago High School in time for its 50th anniversary in the fall of 2003.
Achievement Rewards for College Scientists Foundation - As part of an ongoing effort to advance the future of science education, TPNA forged an alliance with the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists Foundation (ARCS), the nation's largest science scholarship program. Through its partnership with ARCS, TPNA annually awards scholarships to five students pursuing degrees in science-related fields at Chicago-area universities.
ADA/TPNA Mentor-Based Minority Postdoctoral Fellowship Program - TPNA formed a partnership with the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation to develop and maintain the Mentor-Based Minority Postdoctoral Fellowship Program -- a unique program that awards a $315,000 grant to three minority Ph.D. candidates each year. By funding groundbreaking scientific investigations and helping to promote ethnic diversity in the community of advanced diabetes research, this program has further strengthened TPNA's commitment to science education.
A Safe Place - Breaking the Cycle of Domestic Violence - A haven for battered women and their families based in suburban Chicago. The organization provides emergency shelter for victims of domestic abuse and offers programs for women in abusive relationships. TPNA is helping the organization establish a new transitional housing facility.
Employee Matching Gift Program - TPNA employee donations reach a wide variety of social causes and community organizations. To encourage and support their involvement, TPNA's Matching Gift program matches employee contributions to eligible nonprofit organizations.
