Sixty-seven families registered to attend the series of workshops. The families practiced shared reading and story mapping skills at our first workshop on November 17. Bread and Jam for Frances was the featured book. The second family workshop was held December 1. Diego, the story of artist Diego Rivera, was chosen as the book selection. We emphasized comprehension skills using expository text. The children also created chalk drawing modeled after the work of Diego Rivera. Families have been very enthusiastic about the program as shown in their reflection comments after each workshop. The workshop helped me to think more how I read, too. I loved the dual language book. I would like to see more! I liked learning strategies to help my child read.
