Youth Can!
EVYP's 1999-2000 service learning program, Youth Can!, will help 20 students from nine high schools on Chicago's near northwest side build important transferable skills while fostering their commitment and capacity to make lifelong contributions to their communities. These at-risk youth will learn about local government, analyze community issues, design and implement three service learning projects, and reflect on their experiences through poetry writing. Along the way they will gain knowledge and skills in core academic areas, strengthen communication, research, and teamwork skills, develop new confidence and maturity, and see themselves as assets to the world around them, perhaps for the first time.
