Museums are unique in their ability to provide object-based learning experiences. The Field Museum is a treasure trove of cultural artifacts and scientific specimens that pique curiosity and that foster explorations. During Field of Screams activities, students drew inspiration from the man-eating Lions of Tsavo for their stories, and the museums varied cast of animal specimens, past and present, served as suspects in the murder-mystery. Students and teacher reviews of the activities were positive-students loved learning through fun activities, while teachers were delighted that their students acquired skills that they could apply to most school subjects areas.

With support from the JCCC Foundation, The Field Museum brought over 1,000 Chicago Public School students to the Museum to participate in Field of Screams activities. By providing bus transportation and program scholarships for these students, the JCCC Foundation’s contribution ensured these students, most of whom are economically disadvantaged, access to the Museum’s resources.
