
PROGRAMS: Onward
provides social serves for more than 4,000 West Town residents annually.
- Head
Start provides a comprehensive early childhood development programs for
disadvantage children, ages 3-5, through a center based option (34 children)
and a home based option (48 children.)
- Day
Care serves 40 youngsters, ages 3-5, from low incom families whose
parents work or attend full time training programs.
- After
School Day Care offers a variety of after school educational and
recreational activities serving 8 elementary school students between the
ages of 6-12 years.
- Learning
Center provides after school academic assistance and recreational group
environment for 40 elementary school students 6-12 years old living in
neighborhood.
- Summer
Day Camp provides a secure, productive environment for more than 100
children during summer vacation months.
- Youth
Options Unlimited meets the educational, recreational and social needs
of youth, ages 12-20. Onward House collaborates in these efforts with 6
other local community organizations.
- Mayor’s
Summer Youth Employment and Training Program utilizes Onward as a
placement site for 20 summer vacation youth workers, ages 14-20. The
majority, are employed as a day camp program aides.
- Senior
Citizen Outreach offers assistance to the many homebound elderly in the
community. The seniors Onward Friendship Club meets at the center weekly for
social activities.
- Social
Services offered included information and referral, supportive services,
government assistance, transportation (seniors), and crisis intervention
- Emergency
Food Pantry provides nutritious food to 16,000 disadvantaged clients
annually.
