With the support of the JCCC Foundation, the Steppenwolf Theatre Company Arts Exchange program provides meaningful, creative opportunities in the arts for youth, families and educators. Last year, Arts Exchange served more than 10,000 students, teachers, and Ensemble Workshops, The Family Series, and Teachers' Workshops.
In the last year Arts Exchange Programming has begun to focus on the telling of Chicago stories. All components of Arts Exchange are tied to the communities of Chicago, thus relating theatrical experiences to the places where our underserved participants live. Arts Exchange adapts Chicago literature, its rich history, and the poetic experiences of Chicago's youth to provide meaningful viewing and acting experiences. WE provide opportunities to both hear and for students and families, and through mentorship programs and workshops for the creation of of new stories.
Through Arts Exchange, Steppenwolf strives to present multicultural images of success and opportunity to today's underserved youth and their families. The tremendous feedback we receive for our educational initiatives, and the rapid growth we are experiencing, is a testimonial to the fact that students, educators, and community members are being enriched by their participation with Steppenwolf's Arts Exchange program and are in need of expanded and more intensive programming.
