
Classroom
Time Frame
Photographs, Japanese art visuals and Japanese Pokemon cards will
be displayed on hall walls during November and December.
Japanese based art lessons and construction of the
"sembazuru" will being in November and continue throughout the school year.
Celebrate the year 2000, the year of the Dragon, in January along
with a presentation about Japanese arts and culture to all grades in the library.
Celebrate Girl's Day with origami doll making on March 3, 2000.
Celebrate Boy's Day with kite making and flying on May 5, 2000.
Send the "sembazuru" to Hiroshima in May.
School
Time Frame
- The Graham School PTA grant request will be written and
submitted to the PTA President mid-December. I will also request to speak at the January
PTA meeting about my trip to Japan, my Japanese ARTS and Culture Program at Graham School
this year, and I will request PTA volunteers to help with the food preparation and serving
at the Japanese food sampling event.
- In December, Mrs. Davis and/or Mrs. Berk, student parents,
will be asked to assist with the wall mural painting. In January, we will begin painting a
reproduction of Hokusais "Great Wave" on the school wall.
- The Pokemon mobile will be completed and displayed in the
library in January.
- The Haiku and Tanka Poetry workshop will be schedueled for
February along with the ikebana and bonsai floral arranging demonstrations and the Japanese food sampling.
School District/Community
Time Frame
- The Graham School Japanese Arts and Culture
Festival will be scheduled for early April of 2000. Crone Middle SChool and Nequa Valley
High School will have to be contacted about contacted about hosting the Graham School
Japanese Arts and Culture Festival in April. Stage space and building custodians will need
to be arranged. This contact will be made in December 1999 or January 2000.
- A sabbatical leave request will be submitted to my
school district's Professional Growth Committee in January of 2000. If the sabbatical
leave is granted in March, my art education reference and resource book should be written
by August of 2001. If my sabbatical leave is not granted, my book will probably not be
completed until August of 2002.
- I will offer Japanese arts education and grant
writing staff development classes to district employees in late April of 2000.
Personal
Time Frame
- I plan to invite Lilian Degand (Chicago, IL), and
Aurora Chase, (St. Charles, IL), who are both FMFers from the October 1999 group, to my
home to discuss our follow-on plans, look at photos, and reminisce.
