JCCC Cherry Trees: Bloom Forecast 2026
As part of its 50th anniversary project in 2016, JCCC supported “Project 120 Chicago,” an initiative to plant cherry trees in Jackson Park. From 2013 to 2016, we donated a total of 50 cherry trees. Today, approximately 200 cherry trees surround the pond south of the Museum of Science and Industry, brightening the landscape and welcoming visitors each spring.
This year marks JCCC’s 60th anniversary—a milestone we are celebrating with renewed commitment to the community. As part of our anniversary projects, we will donate an additional 60 cherry trees over the next three years, with 20 new trees planted each year beginning in 2024. We look forward to seeing this beloved Chicago landmark continue to flourish

The Hanami Cherry Blossom Festival will take place on Saturday, April 25, at Osaka Garden (formerly The Garden of the Phoenix) in Jackson Park, located in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood. Visitors can enjoy the beauty of the cherry blossoms along with a variety of cultural activities, including a performance by Tsukasa Taiko, children’s taiko workshops, an origami booth, and more.
It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience Japanese culture in a beautiful setting, so we hope you’ll join us and bring friends and family along.

The cherry blossoms are now in full bloom, showing off their beauty at their peak. They’re expected to be at their best this week, so we encourage you to visit soon.

Easter is over, and it finally feels like cherry blossom season has arrived in Chicago. The blooms should be at their best until around April 15, but according to the Chicago Park District, today’s temperatures might even dip low enough for snow, and the weather is expected to stay pretty unpredictable. So if you’re planning to go, it’s probably best to visit sooner rather than later.

The cherry blossoms are starting to bloom! Some buds are still tight, but plenty of others seem just about ready to open. According to the Chicago Park District, the best time to see them will be April 6–15.
3/31/2026 (Tue)
Thanks to yesterday’s warm weather, many of the trees now have buds swelling to Stage 3. According to today’s forecast, the cherry blossoms are expected to begin blooming during the week of April 6 and reach full bloom during the week of April 15.
3/27/2026 (Fri)
While many regions in Japan are already enjoying cherry‑blossom season, Chicago’s trees remain in tightly closed buds. With recent weather fluctuations, the exact bloom date is still hard to predict, but the current outlook points to mid‑April.
We’re hoping for milder, warmer days ahead so everyone can enjoy the blossoms in full bloom again this year. We’ll continue updating this page as soon as new information comes in from the Chicago Park District.
